Did you know that the easiest way to care for your spine is nutrition? It’s true! Being wary about what you eat it crucial to maintaining a healthy body. You want to make sure that you’re getting enough essential vitamins and minerals to support your overall health. Today I’ll touch on just a few of those things that are necessary for a healthy spine! (After all, you KIND OF need it.)
Calcium: This mineral is crucial for strong bones, including the vertebrae in your spine! Dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified foods are excellent sources of calcium.
Vitamin D: This is crucial for calcium absorption. It can be obtained by sunlight (wear your sunscreen though!), fatty fish, and supplements.
Protein: Protein is VITAL for muscle strength and repair. Incorporate lean meats, fish, beans, and nuts into your diet.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These fats reduce inflammation and support disc health. (Those spongey little doodads between your vertebrae.) Find them in fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts.
Antioxidants: These super nutrients can be found in berries, fruits, and colorful veggies. They protect against oxidative stress that can harm spinal tissues.
Take a good, hard look at your diet and make sure you’re getting these critical components for spinal health! Your spine (and all of your other bones) will thank you!
