So, yesterday we covered how to sit properly. But what about standing properly? Yes, that is SUPER important to spinal health. If your posture is out of whack, your whole body will follow!
Here are some simple guidelines on how you should be standing.
Firstly, bear your weight primarily on the balls of your feet. Also, keep your knees slightly bent. (Locking your knees is definitely a huge no no!) Keep your feet about shoulder width apart, and let your arms hang naturally down at the sides of your body. Finally, stand straight and tall with your shoulders relaxed backwards while tucking your stomach in. (If you end up looking like superman, you might be doing a little too much!)
Here’s an extra tidbit: if you’re standing against a wall, your heels, hips, shoulders and head should be touching! (Or the head can be 2 fingers width forward.)
Following these simple tips will provide you with perfect posture and in a good place to ward off spinal health issues!
