Let me just start by saying that we should all be doing some sort of physical activity on a regular basis. Something simple like a walk, taking a swim, or maybe even taking a bike ride.

Not only does this facilitate and healthy overall physique, but it REALLY helps keep your spine in tip top shape! There are a ton of ways that exercise helps with spinal health.

  • It strengthens the muscles that support the spine. Which in turn helps remove pressure from the spinal discs and facet joints.
  • It helps alleviate stiffness and improves mobility.
  • It aids in improving circulation to better distribute nutrients throughout the body, including to the spinal discs.
  • It releases endorphins, which can naturally relieve pain. Having frequent releases of endorphins can help reduce reliance on pain medication as well! Endorphins also elevate mood, and relieve depressive symptoms. (Which can be a side effect of chronic pain.)
  • It helps reduce the frequency of back or neck pain episodes, and potentially reduces the severity of pain when it does occur.

As I said, even just a walk counts as exercise! Your spine will thank you! (And you’ll also help yourself stay healthy for years to come.)
